And it seems fitting to celebrate and reflect on my 5th year anniversary as I stand now on the cusp of a whole new chapter. 🌌 5 years ago, I gave my absolute everything on the @missuniverse stage. And I’m fond of looking back on my journey and remembering how I had to conquer so many fears because in my pursuit, I went against the grain. From being an independent, non-camp trained candidate and forming my own team; to utilizing visual, story telling in every aspect from my national costume, to my ootds, to my accessories; to creating social media strategies and campaigns. Some people, I rubbed the wrong way because I wasn’t just a “yes” girl. I was vocal, stubborn in my vision of what a representative could, and ought to bring to the universe stage. Mine is also a comeback story. One that was rooted in failure – that’s why the mythical folklore of Philippine mythology in the form of Ibong Adarna resonates so deeply: a phoenix that rises from the ashes. And five years ago, in Bangkok Thailand, I earned the greatest honor of bringing pride to my country as @missuniverse 2018. To everyone who has supported me every step of the way, especially those of you who encouraged me never to give up and to try again, thank you. 🥹 Look at how far we’ve come together. My journey in its simplest form, has and always will be, a love letter to my country of the Philippines. 🇵🇭 And I hope it can serve as a reminder to never give up on YOUR vision. And that no matter what the path your on looks like…know that you are never denied and only redirected. ✨️ And yet…we rise. 🔥 Photography: @bjpascual Creative Direction: @vincecanlapan Makeup: @jellyeugenio assisted by @zidjianpaul Hair: @hairbybrentsales Styling: @justine.aliman19 Designer: @diaaliph Handler & Coordinating Producer: @lizalvarez.ph @cornerstone Road Manager: @danikapalanca 5 has always been my favorite number, ever since I was a little girl. There is so much to be said too for those who have stayed as a part of my core in all the years since. 🥹 who may have started out as a team, but swiftly became friends…and eventually became family. For my parents, whom together with my core group, have kept me grounded as I reached my highest highs and battled with my lows. For the charitable organizations that have continued to trust me with their mission and vision. For the supporters and friends who have always made this journey feel so much bigger than a title. Thank you for being my fuel. I lava you all! 🌋 But above everything and everyone, thank you Lord God who through it all, has always anchored me. I thank Him for every opportunity and every open door. Even the doors that were closed, because I know He has a perfect plan. 🙏 The fact that I couldn’t have even fathomed living a life such as this one that has continued to exceed even my wildest expectations, is a testament that He sees the potential that you yourself, can’t even trust to see…yet. 🥹 Also huge shout out to this team that brought this series of images to life! But for many remote communities dito sa Pinas, wells, rivers and springs remain to be primary water sources. 💧 This can introduce complications created by unclean or contaminated water, which can lead to sickness and, in severe cases, the loss of life. I was giddy at the opportunity to take part in a community outreach with @wavesforwaterphilippines at Brgy Calo, Lobo Batanagas, where water filter equipment was donated by @hm. Everytime you shop at a H&M and opt to buy a paper bag for 2php, these proceeds go directly to Waves for Water projects that provide access to safe and clean drinking water for communities all over the country. 💙🇵🇭 Aside from teaching the families and community leaders how to properly operate their filters, as well as the education behind clean drinking water, we also taught the local children how to properly wash their hands using donated hand washing stations. 😊 To learn more about the work that @wavesforwaterphilippines does you can visit www.wavesforwater.org 💧 Thanks for reading 🤗 Calo, Nasugbu, Batangas Access to safe, clean water is a basic human right. We trained community members on the importance of clean water and proper usage and maintenance of the filters. With Catriona’s support, we also taught the students how to properly wash their hands, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and sanitation. Our collective mission strives to make clean water and hygiene accessible to all💧 Every effort contributes to creating a positive wave of change, fostering a healthier community. #wavesforwater #w4wphilippines This was fun!
