I am deeply inspired by the mass movement of peace loving people—led by Jewish and Muslim Americans—joining in nonviolent protest to demand peace and a #ceasefire
Gaza’s 2 million population are mostly children, who live under blockade in what Israel’s own former intelligence chief has called an open air prison.
The overwhelming majority live in poverty.
Many suffer lifelong psychological and physical trauma.
Just as we honor the humanity of the hundreds of innocent Israeli civilians and 9 Americans who were killed this weekend, we must honor the humanity of the innocent Palestinian civilians who have been killed and whose lives are upended.
Palestinian residents of the West Bank have scarcely better lives than Gazans—with the routine destruction of their ancestral homes, destruction of their crops, and violent attacks by Israeli settlers. According to Amnesty International, Human Rights watch, the UN, and Israeli human rights group B’Tselem these policies meet the definition of apartheid. We know occupation and systematic apartheid are a violation of international law and it must end.
Palestinians have few recourses for justice and accountability. Attacks by the IDF and settlers against Palestinians are regularly met with impunity. Efforts to seek justice in international courts are stonewalled by the Israeli government, with U.S. support.
As the world is condemning Hamas’s attacks, we must also oppose an Israeli military response that has already taken the lives of hundreds of Palestinians, including nearly two dozen children. The Israeli Defense Minister has called Palestinians ‘human animals’ and promised to cut off all electricity, all food, and all fuel to civilians in Gaza. This is collective punishment, a war crime, and the U.S. should oppose any violations of international law if we truly support a rules-based international order.
We must learn from the mistakes of our own war on terror—that military action alone rarely addresses the root causes. That peace and justice will not come from the barrel of a gun. And that targeting an entire civilian population for the actions of a few will only sow more discord and perpetuate the cycle of violence.

No where is safe. There is no safe place in Gaza. May humanity prevail and move our souls to now consider what this mean for civilians in Gaza and why we must call for ceasefire to safe lives and our humanity. As someone who fled war, it pains me to watch captive people unable to escape being carpet-bombed. May our compassion for human life compel us to work towards a peaceful resolution to this horrific tragedy that has existed for decades and bring about peace for those who have suffered tragic losses.
A fire has caused extensive to a mosque in my district in Minneapolis. This same mosque was subject to an arson attack earlier this year while over 100 people were inside. I am grateful that no one was hurt and praying for the safety of my community.
From Minneapolis to DC, I am inspired by all those in the Jewish community raising their voices for peace and humanity in the face of violence.
It is a reminder that our horror at the attacks on Israelis cannot blind us from what is happening to Palestinian civilians.
Praying that love will overcome hate.

This past week we celebrated the $1 million dollars I secured for the Native American Community Clinic (NACC) through Community Project Funding. This would expand their current clinic and housing unit that will allow to double their impact from serving 5,000 unique patients to nearly 10,000 yearly with augmented clinic and outreach health services and providing housing solutions and support. This project would benefit one of the largest Native American populations in the country, providing housing and important health services for the Native American community.
I am proud to announce that we recently secured $750,000 in federal dollars to fund new affordable housing for veterans in Robbinsdale. Our governor has made it a mission to end veteran homelessness and we are doing our part to get the resources at the federal level.

I’m incredibly proud of the model of cogovernance we’ve built in the 5th District, which has included monthly town halls, routine constituent service resource fairs and a brand new district office. Together, we’ve brought over $40 million to the district in the form of community projects—including a brand new affordable housing facility for veterans in Robbinsdale that I toured this past week. As a leader of the House Budget Committee and Progressive Caucus, I’ve continued to fight for the progressive values Minnesotans sent me to advocate for—whether it’s fighting to codify Roe v. Wade into law, pushing for historic climate legislation, addressing the opioid crisis or fighting for an assault weapons ban.
Leader Hakeem Jeffries has been freelancing as Speaker since Kevin McCarthy couldn’t lead. Truth is, without Democrats, the government would be shut down. Yet McCarthy still found a way to try and blame us for his incompetence. Typical MAGA behavior. We’ve had enough.
I visited Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities, a youth mentoring organization that serves over 2,500 children in the Minneapolis area. Last year they served 2,593 kids though mentoring, arts programs, career readiness and more!
