A recently restored dish in the distinctive style of Palissy ware.
A 19th century term for ceramics produced in the style of the famous French potter Bernard Palissy 1510 – 1590 and much imitated in his own lifetime and especially in the 19th Century.
This distinctive style is often characterised by three dimensional modelled snakes, fish, lizards, snails and aquatic life and can be a fun challenge to work on.
These pieces frequently need conservation as there are so many areas that stand proud, catching and breaking and due to the textured surfaces often have a build up of dirt, soot, nicotine and grease as they are often wall mounted.
