We knew she’d do right as Celie’s younger sister not only because she’s a fiercely protective sibling herself in real life, but also by the way she handled everything that came with playing Ariel. The good and bad were met with Halle’s grace, dignity, and strength. She then brought Young Nettie to life with a fresh, enlivened sassiness to her—even writing an original song for the soundtrack.
