Oprah Winfrey Instagram – @thecolorpurple spotlight: @hallebailey Halle had just finished filming The Little Mermaid when she agreed to play Young Nettie in our movie, which brought us so much excitement. We knew she’d do right as Celie’s younger sister not only because she’s a fiercely protective sibling herself in real life, but also by the way she handled everything that came with playing Ariel. The good and bad were met with Halle’s grace, dignity, and strength. She then brought Young Nettie to life with a fresh, enlivened sassiness to her—even writing an original song for the soundtrack. I’m so delighted to bring her into the Purple sisterhood and I cannot wait for you to meet her version of Young Nettie. The Color Purple is in theaters starting on Christmas Day💜
