Rachel Miner Instagram – Since its proclamation in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly in resolution 47/3, the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) has been celebrated annually on 3 December around the world.
The observance of the IDPD aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and to mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
This year @antonioguterres called on the world to work side by side with the 1.3 billion people with disabilities to design & deliver solutions based on equal rights in every country & community.
What I know is living with disability for the past 13 plus years has opened me up in ways I never imagined. I have been able to better access the deepest and truest aspects of myself as well as gain a deep, deep appreciation for the joy inherent in every moment we draw breath. Living with disability has also strengthened my resolve to advocate for a world that is accessible to and inclusive of all, where every person can live to their fullest without being held back by the cruelty or unawareness of others or the mechanisms of outdated or unjust systems. May we create a world conducive to connection, wherein all can thrive.
