Kathryn Hunter’s performance as the Witches in “The Tragedy Of Macbeth” has stayed with me since I first watched the film in 2021. A vastly underrated performance; her unnatural movements and possessed-looking expression glues you to every frame she’s in.
Throughout Hunter’s career, she’s gravitated toward male roles in classical plays because they were more complex and fully developed parts. She’s received wide acclaim as the title character in “King Lear,” “Richard III,” “Timon of Athens” and “Cyrano de Bergerac,” as well as Puck in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and the Fool in another production of “Lear.”
