Barton Cowperthwaite Instagram – While there’s still no known cure for these types of tumors, this is definitely the news we were hoping for and it feels like we have so much to be optimistic about moving forward. Pathology is saying the tumor is a grade 2 Oligodendroglioma. They’re still waiting for the results of the final molecular pathology from the lab, but @nyulangone is currently 98% sure that we’re looking at the best case scenario. Oligodendroglioma make up only bout 4% of all brain tumors. Even though the operation has been classified as a gross total resection (aka they got it ALL!), it’s still possible for the tumor to come back. Their more aggressive relatives, astrocytomas, are much more common so we’re definitely acknowledging our blessings on that front. At this point my doctors are not recommending any immediate continued treatment. This is obviously fantastic news, and we will be moving forward with monitoring and getting scans every 2-3 months for the next few years. Current plan is to schedule my next MRI for early in the new year and to connect with the neuro-oncologist who will prescribe treatment if any future scans determine it necessary.

Docs have given me thumbs up to start some light exercise. So now I get to start rebuilding physically!
