Leonardo DiCaprio Instagram – Conservation success: The Saiga, a species of antelope, has been reclassified from ‘Critically Endangered’ to ‘Near Threatened’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This unprecedented recovery reflects the remarkable conservation of Saiga populations in Kazakhstan. The species, which once numbered as few as 48,000 individuals in 2005, has now grown to over 1.9 million individuals in the wild. Congrats to the government of Kazakhstan, which invested heavily in anti-poaching initiatives, robust law enforcement, and the establishment of new protected areas. Leonardo DiCaprio Instagram – The Lear’s Macaw—a brilliant blue parrot—was once on the brink of extinction, but conservation efforts have helped the species recover. That recovery is fragile and a new wind energy project in the Canduous cliffs, the bird’s only habitat, in Brazil’s Bahia state is threatening the species’ future.
