I’m exhausted by my own people, my own community, but particularly my own generation of ‘kia’i and ‘aloha ‘āina’
So many of you watched and championed a certain woman from Maui as she literally harassed wahine Hawai’i from Lahaina along with simultaneously harassing me, my family, and women in my community on Hawai’i Island. So many of you enjoyed the way she mocked us and the way she taunted us with posting our children on her stories with the purpose of hurting us. Her actions incited an empty courage in many of you to cause people you don’t even know real harm. And sooo many you who preach about protecting women and protecting land ate all of that up and not only became complicit in her harm but made her out to be some kind of accountability hero. You championed someone who not only celebrates hurting people but who dedicates her life to making it harder for other women, other mothers, to tend to their responsibilities, their children, and show up for their community.
It is absolutely despicable to have seen so many of you repeat her toxic behavior and bully women specifically of Lahaina as they did and continue to do everything they can to heal, grieve, and take care of their families. And so many of the people who loved this for them – brought out their arare and popcorn and not only watched but commented with hate – are in the same generation as the people who were being attacked. Hawaiian fathers, mothers, queer people. Auē ka hilahila.
it’s like you guys were waiting for the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon to take us all to the proverbial social media courts to be judged by the lehulehu without any consideration for our humanity or even our truth. This is example you all gave to the next generation of aloha ‘āina and some of them are following right along and more have decided not to repeat that kolonaio behavior.
I pray protection and healing for the women of Lahaina that were forced to endure this public harm and who continue to. Like Tutu Nana Veary said, “change, we must,” and change, we certainly are. Boundaries held sacred and small circle held close.

Kū Kia‘i Palekekina
I wanted to share a little bit about how this came to be. My braddah @kaiboymusic asked me to chant on this powerful musical declaration of solidarity. Just the week before my fellow comrade and brilliant hoa aloha ‘āina @olapakauwila.wilz invited me to chant the kanikau he found in honor of Timoteo Ha’alilio that referenced the abundant waterways of Palestine.
I included that particular line of the kanikau in the first line of this chant. I wanted to amplify the Palestinian liberation cry, ‘from the river to the sea,’ in the second line and intentionally addressed the ocean for its power and incredible expanse with the name Moananuiākea as a reminder to our people and the people of the world that we as, moana clans, are connected to Gaza by our sacred waters. I affirm my prayer and align my rituals and offerings with those of the ceremonial people of the world in the name of the protection and return of true autonomy to Palestine and all oppressed peoples. And I acknowledge all people standing in solidarity and conscious allyship who truly work towards a world free of genocide and war with Kamehameha III Kauikeaouli’s cree and prophesy with a slight change of tense, ‘e mau ke ea o ka ‘āina i ka pono i ka ‘oia‘i‘o.’ May the life of the land be perpetuated in righteousness, in the highest frequency of aloha, and in what is true to soul.
Then with honor and deep love for the connections our mountain has gifted us, I remind our people that Palestine came to stand with us for our mountain. It is our sacred duty to stand with them now as the fight to survive these evil and horrifically brutal attacks of genocide carried out by Israhell, funded by our tax payers dollars under duress. It is our responsibility to rise powerfully unified with our hands and hearts open ready to be of service to our relatives of the ‘āina ki’owai o Palesetina.
I humbly inquired a Palestinian friend I made these past three months for permission to seal this prayerful chant with the muslim words, ‘Inshallah Ameen,’ to pay homage to the god the people Gaza pray to and love. With her grace, I lift this chant with all my soul to Palestine. Kingdom of Hawai’i

deep sigh. i’m exhausted to the core my being so i am resting my heart in the glow of the sky over Wehenaalaula. That is the name that I gave to this beach as offering and as honoring. i have spent two very poignant seasons of my life here on these shores of our eldest land in Hawai’i. most don’t know what it is like to live on an atoll with only two other people. what it’s like to work your body every day for the purpose of healing a land that you love more than you even know you had the capacity to. my love for these shores cannot be described in english. it is ancient as time.
i did not exist in the world in the people when i was there. i existed in the world.
a world of spirits and of birds. a world of ancestors and sacred teachings. a world of hōlani, where the heavens are the earth.
the world of people could break my soul if i didn’t know any better. it could shatter my mind if i didn’t know my truth like i know this place. i spent three months here building five ahu that i still tend to and still pray to.

lives in the places of prayer that i set with my own two hands
with legions of ancestors at the four corners of my body.

it is the most in harmony and the most in tune and natural human state of being that i have ever experienced in my life.
it is the closest i have ever gotten to truly knowing in my living body what it feels like to be in union with everything that the earth is. it felt Hawai’i. it felt mauli. it felt maoli. it made me feel so fully and beautifully alive.
and i miss that feeling as i walk in the land of people. amongst people who don’t know what sacred is because they don’t know what it really feels like to love like this.
