Ce début précisément, c’est la mélodie entêtante que livre d’emblée le violon, dont le naturel et la souplesse ont conféré sa notoriété à cette page tardive, truffée d’embûches techniques. En complément, sa Symphonie no 5 « Réformation » et la Passacaille opus 1 d’Anton Webern : dix minutes sur lesquelles rôdent le spectre de Brahms, et peut-être celui de Mendelssohn.
