Enough is enough. This must stop. There is no justification for this violence.
A parent’s love is immeasurable, regardless of who we are or where we live. Many of us will go home tonight, kiss our children and put them to bed. In Gaza today, so many parents will be trying to identify their children, covered in rubble and having to bury them. How is that fair? This cannot go on. With millions facing starvation and thousands of innocent civilians, including children, killed, I again called on the Government to push for a ceasefire.
We have heard lots about the Government’s heartless Rwanda scheme. This circus is the latest saga in the Tory melodrama, but it is the most vulnerable people whose lives they’re playing with. Britain is better than this cruel, cynical Tory Government. I have worked with refugees for more than a decade. I have heard their experiences of war, violence and terror. Nobody leaves their homes, communities and livelihoods unless they must. That is why I will always stand against the inhumane Rwanda Bill. #chooselove #refugeeaction #care4calais #wandsworthwelcomesrefugees #londonwelcomesrefugees #actionforrefugees #Rwanda #toriesout #genow #generalelectionnow #ukpolitics
Oops. Little message sent from dad’s phone. This little “Elf” needs to think of somewhere extra special to be tonight 😂
NEW: In today’s @guardian, I reveal the scandal of new mothers being turned away from mental health services. For some time, I’ve been concerned that new mothers are being left to suffer in silence. My figures show that last year, nearly 20,000 new mothers were turned away from mental health services. Maternal mental health services are being rationed. This is despite maternal illness costing the whole of society £8.1 billion a year. It is an absolute scandal. The 8,500 new staff Labour will recruit are vital to solving this crisis. It was brilliant to be part of the @thismorning team on @itv today. I joined them for the morning view to talk about the Michelle Mone interview, Royal Mail delays and Christmas carols for your health. #thismorning

It has been another great year for Tooting Labour. Last night dozens of local members met up for our Christmas drinks. We’ve got important elections next year, so please sign up to help out (link in bio)

With the nights getting longer and recent rise in crime, some people feel uncomfortable walking in public alone. I’ve launched my Safe Space campaign, where local businesses can sign up to offer a place of safety. For local businesses that would like to sign-up, head to the link in my bio.
2023 has been another incredibly busy year for me and my team. I’m so proud of the work we have done for the community in Tooting. See some of the highlights of the year in my thread: Photo 1: On behalf of @stgeorgeshospitalcharity, @fleur_anderson_ and I rode from London to Brighton to help raise funds for the Time to Change Appeal. Together we raised over £3,000 to support their work. Photo 2: This year, our incredible NHS turned 75. To celebrate, I joined my fantastic colleagues at St George’s Hospital. I know from my shifts in A&E how hard all its staff are working to keep it going, even in the hardest of times. Photo 3: Universal free school meals are equalling the playing field for children in London. I visited Earlsfield Primary School to see the rollout and show what Labour in power can do: ending inequality and helping every child get the best start in life. Photo 4: At the start of the Ukraine war, Tooting residents opened up their hearts and homes to Ukrainian refugees. When the Home Office were slow in reuniting Dmytro with his family, I stepped in to help. Photo 5: As a proud trade unionist, I was honoured to be guest speaker at @unisontheunion’s annual conference. Video 1: For months, I’ve been worried about staffing levels at Wandsworth Prison. I raised these with the Government last year, long before a prisoner escaped. On the day of Daniel Khalife’s escape, the prison was 80 prison officers short. Photo 6: Urgent action is needed to address the inequalities that impact too many people when detained under the Mental Health Act. That’s why I have been calling for reform of the Mental Health Act. The Tories scrapped the plans. Photo 7: Our local area is an incredibly vibrant place to live, but concerns have been raised with me about anti-social behaviour. Following public meetings with the police, I am pleased that more police officers have been dedicated to Tooting. Photo 8: As always, a lot of my work has been helping local residents address issues in the community. This year, I dealt with 13,000 cases. Video 2: The violence in Israel and Gaza has been heartbreaking. I have repeatedly called for a ceasefire.

Wonderful to attend the @thefurzedownproject Christmas party with a great carol performance from local children at @ptapenworthamprimary. Truly brilliant to see the community together ahead of Christmas.

Wishing everyone in Tooting, and beyond, a very happy and healthy Christmas!
Many local businesses care deeply about the safety of our community. It’s what makes Tooting such a great place to live and work in and why I am proud to represent the area. As the nights get longer, I have called on local businesses to sign up to my Safe Space campaign to offer a place of safety to members of the public in order to charge their phone or call a taxi, if they need it. Businesses like @PortersBalham on Balham High Road have signed up to join the Safe Space campaign because they want our community to be safe for everyone. So if you haven’t signed up yet but want to join, you can by heading to the link in my bio.
