Caption : When we first met, she thought I hated her and I thought she was a princess with an endless wardrobe and an infinite supply of confidence. For the next five years she managed to prove me right and prove me wrong. She IS a princess, but one who also rolls up her sleeves to help our team build schools never once complaining about the discomforts of the non princess surroundings. She DOES have a bevy of clothes, but she’s also down to take them off, a naked hippie child like me, and swoon on the magic that is Canada. She IS endlessly confident, but underneath that layer lies the most positive, empathetic, spiritual mamabear that reminds me to always trust the journey. That all good people find their way. Caption : I’m one gin cocktail in so forgive me. As I approach one year of konas passing I am met feeling like I am barely grasping the slick walls of time. It just keeps going. Pandemic infused, chaotic and unknown, our communities small enough to fit in a bubble and large enough to divide. It’s uncharted and terrifying and yet, slippery and momentary. I’d give anything to step back to this moment on the Oregon coast with my first pup, Kona. Camping with no inhibition. Hugging strangers and sharing campfires with fellow nomads. But here we are, 6 years later, weighted under the folds of this uncharted year. My new companion, Bob, rescued before the closing of Los Angeles shelters bee lining for the Canadian border to follow my heart. I look at these two pictures and all I really see is love. Caption : I don’t normally take to instagram to complain about my rather blessed life. I don’t normally have the best track record for seamless travel but after the flight woes of the last few days I needed to voice my frustration with @virginatlantic. I was not allowed on the plane to Africa where I am en route to build a school because of passport space issues. Ladies and gents, unknown fact, if your passport pages don’t have “visa” written on them, they are not valid pages. I learned the hard way and though I do not blame the airline for not letting me board I do blame them for not allowing me to rebook my ticket and attempting to charge me $7,000 for an entirely new one way ticket. I would rather spend that kind of money on a new school, not a coach seat on a flight that should be changed for me for free. So, there. Rant done, but I will say one last thing, it’s hard to have a massive corporation and give every customer complain and issue it’s due diligence. I get that. But when you have not one customer service employee willing to hear me out and help right a situation, then you have a company not worth supporting. I will find my way to the build, I will be late but I will get there;)

When I reflect on where I’m at in my life, I realize being happy has led me to feeling a lot more beautiful in every way. Now that I’m beginning this wild new chapter of pregnancy, a choice I was able to make because it was the right time for us and a choice that I don’t take for granted, it is more important than ever to focus on self-care and self awareness.
