When I reached my towering height of 6’7″ at the age of 18, the ballet world seemed to turn its back on me. The Paris Opera Ballet suggested I pursue modeling instead, saying, “You have a better chance in modeling; ballet dancers are typically shorter.” Undeterred, I left France for the United States.
It was Gerald Arpino, Mr. A, who welcomed me into his company with open arms. At the Joffrey Ballet, my height was not seen as a disadvantage; rather, it was embraced as unique. Mr. A pushed me to realize my potential.
