Meet St. Paul, Minnesota’s new City Council. All women. All Democrats.
As Councilwoman Nelsie Yang told the New York Times, “Change doesn’t happen with the same voices at the table.”
I’m cheering you all on!

Here’s the thing about living in times of tumult: What we do matters, because we have the chance to set the country’s trajectory for decades to come. Let’s commit to making America a better nation—a stronger democracy, full of opportunity for everyone—in 2024.
I was thrilled to see Lily Gladstone make history last night as the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for best actress. Congratulations!
Happy birthday, @michelleobama!

Wishing you a warm and wonderful Christmas Eve!
How did you first learn the story of Rosa Parks, whose birthday was yesterday? Too often, we hear about her refusal to give up her seat on an Alabama bus as a single, inevitable act. It was not.
Parks spent years studying the principles of non-violent resistance, informing her political beliefs, and helping to grow a community of activists. Her bus protest was not just an act of courage, but of clear-eyed conviction. It also led to Parks’s tireless organizing to keep the Montgomery bus boycott going, and a lifetime of taking action around causes she cared about, often with no recognition and at enormous personal risk.
She understood better than anyone that progress takes decades of hard work, persistence, and the courage to keep going. #gutsywomen

Backstage with some familiar faces at #CommonSenseSummit yesterday! It was wonderful to join these leaders and to discuss the expanding efforts of @2SmalltoFail and actionable solutions that put kids and families at the center.

“Care is a top economic pain point for millions of families,” @AiJenP writes in the most recent #TIME100 issue. “There are some issues that are widely felt, but are not burning or deeply felt. This one is both, because care has never been a choice.”
It’s always taken a village. I agree with Ai-jen: We should make access to quality caregiving a priority issue in this election year. Join the effort through @careinactionUS and Onward Together partner @domesticworkers.
