Indy Srinath Instagram – 〰️When I first met Alexander I told him that I was thinking of making my instagram into one of those “faceless” accounts. Where you see everything from the point of view of the user, and they intentionally shroud their face with oversized wildflower bouquets, or glass cups of milky matcha, or trendier still, you see their arm coming toward you to a vanishing point insinuating that they’re the person you’d cross continents with, tanned hand in hand, messy bun and high waisted acid washed jeans silhouetted against some soon to be overvisited Eastern European landscape.
Of course he talked me out of this, citing reasons a boyfriend would give along with the advice I tend to tongue in the back of my mouth like a piece of kale stuck between your molars, nourishing if only it weren’t lodged above the surface:
‘It’s not the objects people care about, it’s you and your relationship to them’
So here is me in relationship to my jars of dried herbs, some from the market but most from trips northward with the aforementioned Alexander, stopping to study macrofungi and delights of small town gas stations alike
And here’s me in relation to my office where I tend to accomplish less work than I do if left alone typing frantically in my “notes” app in an airport bathroom stall
And here’s me in relation to being 31, the age at which you’re expected to begin filling and plumping and dyeing and tucking and nipping at the edges where growth begins to take hold of previous form and function
Neither am I one to fight gravity nor one to fight another woman, so here I am, left to be supportive, if not worried, if not in awe of the stale and stuck forehead that modern medicine can render us unable to raise a brow at.
Anyway, it’s a long way to say here’s my selfie for the year, I’ll leave you to pick at it while I spend time regretting posting it, while I casually wonder what percent of people still read captions.
For those still clinging on, tell me about you,
and your relationship to your favorite objects.
Truth, dare, and promise to respond.
