For the 3 months @qiyuwu was shooting 《那一年的除夕夜》, I saw him come home exhausted, with hardly much energy left to talk. Sometimes, his voice is hoarse, his eyes red, and I knew it must have been an emotional day. And so I got down to reading his scripts in the day while he was gone. As I flipped the pages, they read like your typical Mediacorp scripts — except his character was in every scene. Sometimes, both of them appear in the same scene. Filming this was going to be gruelling physically, but the emotional work? That’s something not written. And so I watched the magic he created on screen with the role.
My heart aches along with him as he sits alone in the living room, pulls down the VR glasses and tears up. His emotions tugged me along through the screen. It’s been a long time since I watched an actor on local TV perform with such authenticity.
As an actress, I know what he did was not an easy thing to do. And especially because I’m so familiar with the production process and everything that could interfere with the actor’s delivery. Preserving authenticity in every moment when scenes are shot out of sequence puts an actor’s calibre to the test. And so this is why this role is demanding. The unseen emotional work is heavier than any he has done. Even when he’s tired, on days he’s unwell, he pushes through. And his character shines so perfectly imperfect.
As a fellow professional, I have great respect for him and so much admiration for his craft. In fact, I think he will shine like a gem on the global stage and bring to light a different type of Asian acting that the rest of the world has yet to see.
As his wife, I am proud of his commitment and dedication, the encouraging messages from friends and fans, positive reviews from media practitioners and good feedback from the general public.
He deserves every one of it.
On the 7th day of Chinese New Year, let “Once Upon a New Year’s Eve” 《那一年的除夕夜》remind us of what should matter in our lives. #人日

🎉🙌🏻The biggest challenge for my character in “SHERO” was maintaining consistency in the emotional journey as filming spanned four months across Singapore and Australia. I enjoyed being a part of this project and it’s an honour to be nominated for this year’s Star Awards.
But seriously, since the ceremony this year is going to be held on my son’s birthday, I think I deserve a trophy — for pushing him out 7 years ago. What say you? 🤣🤣🤣 #pushpresent #starawards2024 #mediacorpSHERO

You make me happy when skies are gray. Unforgettable sausages, French onion soup and marshmallows. #10yearannniversary @qiyuwu
With the arrival of spring, I continue to find pockets of time to slow down, a practice I like to call ‘active pausing.’ It’s a misconception that to pause means to be passive. On the contrary, it’s a deliberate choice to engage more meaningfully with the present moment.
Through my own journey, I’ve come to realise that sensory overload isn’t exclusive to children; I experience it, too. Symptoms for me manifest as impatience and frustration. But now, instead of succumbing to these feelings, I acknowledge them and share what I’m going through with my family. It’s astonishing how simply voicing that I’m feeling overwhelmed can significantly diminish its hold on me.
May this Dragon Year bring forth the transformation of potential conflict into opportunities for connection and understanding. #FendiSS24

🏮🐉 This CNY, our family tradition of decorating the house took a creative turn, thanks to the kids! With them now older and bursting with creativity, they’ve added their own touch by incorporating LEGO sets into our festive decor. I was greeted with an amazing surprise upon returning home – a meticulously assembled LEGO Ninjago dragon, proudly displayed among our CNY decorations. It’s heartwarming to see them contributing in such unique and imaginative ways, blending tradition with their personal interests. Here’s to new traditions and cherished family moments. #CNYTraditions #LEGOSG 🎉
