Keely Cat Wells Instagram – It’s International Day of Disabled People!
This years theme, set by the United Nations, is “united in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by disabled people”.
As someone with a hidden disability I often feel like an imposter, and at times, in both non-disabled and disabled spaces.
The hidden nature of my disability protects me from a whole universe of discrimination and microaggressions, but it also insulates me from potential support,
Living with a chronic illness & hidden disability is complicated and many of us can relate to the ‘but you look fine’ or ‘you don’t look disabled’ comments, making it harder to ask for accommodations/access requirements.
Similar to the nature of my disability, the community at large faces challenges that many choose to not see, making it harder for advocacy to work.
In a world facing unprecedented challenges, listening and unified action is more crucial than ever.
