I appeal for the evacuation order on hospitals in northern Gaza to be reversed - and for health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians to be protected.
Justin Welby Instagram - The war in Israel and Gaza cannot be allowed to sow antisemitism, hatred and prejudice in the UK.

This morning at Lambeth Palace I was joined by Sheikh Ibrahim Mogra and Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg to call for solidarity in our communities.

Sheikh Ibrahim and Rabbi Wittenberg spoke for their own communities and networks, of their deep pain for what is happening in Israel and Gaza and the sharp rise in antisemitism in the UK, but also of the comfort they have found in friendship forged across religious difference.

I pray that we remain united against all forms of discrimination.

Justin Welby Instagram - The atrocious attack on Al Ahli Hospital violated the sanctity of human life.

We must exercise restraint in apportioning blame until the facts are clear.

But the bloodshed, slaughter and suffering of innocent people on all sides must stop.

Justin Welby Instagram - The people of Armenia are not forgotten – not by God, and not by the Church. Today I began a two-day visit here, having been to Azerbaijan and Georgia earlier this week.

I have long been praying for the people of Armenia – the first Christian kingdom. They were the first region to have the cross as their symbol; a symbol of struggle and pain. I’m so grateful for this chance to remind them that in their current struggle, our Armenian sisters and brothers are not forgotten by us, nor by God.

Neither are the 120,000 refugees who have fled the Nagorno-Karabakh region – some of whom I will be meeting tomorrow. They remain in my prayers and the prayers of @thechurchofengland.

In Azerbaijan on Monday, I met with political leaders and pleaded with them to break the cycle of violence, and protect the religious and cultural heritage of Armenian Karabakhs.

And at the remarkable Peace Cathedral in Georgia on Tuesday, we prayed together for peace and reconciliation around the world. Together we asked God to refresh our love for non-violence, to refresh our love for our neighbours. May peacebuilding across borders of all kinds continue to be our hearts’ cry.

Justin Welby Instagram - On All Hallows’ Eve, Christians prepare for the coming of All Saints’ Day tomorrow, when we remember in prayer all those people of God who made a huge difference in the lives of others because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Justin Welby Instagram - The Church is the body of Christ - we belong to one another and share each others’ burdens.

As we gathered to worship at St Wilfrid’s in @CofEPortsmouth this morning, we remembered our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, and prayed for all God’s children caught up in war.

Justin Welby Instagram - Today is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. May we hear the cries of those around the world who suffer for their faith in Jesus Christ. And stand in prayerful solidarity with them for a world where all are free to peacefully practice their religion or belief.
Justin Welby Instagram - The call for a ceasefire is a moral cry for humanity to find another way to achieve justice, security and peace for Israelis and Palestinians.

The devastating loss of innocent Palestinian life and humanitarian catastrophe resulting from Israel’s bombardment and siege of Gaza cannot be morally justified. The evil of Hamas cannot be paid by the civilians of Gaza.

The bloodshed must cease, hostages must be released, and aid must reach those in dire need. In Christ’s name, we cry from our hearts: “No more. This killing must stop.”

Justin Welby Instagram - As Christians our first action in the face of war, terror and hatred is to pray to the God of justice, mercy and peace.

Tomorrow, the Church in the Holy Land - including our Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem - is inviting Christians around the world to join in a day of fasting and prayer. Please join us in praying for all the people of the Holy Land.
Justin Welby Instagram - It was a huge honour to welcome His Majesty The King to @lampallib today to meet with faith leaders from across the UK as part of #InterFaithWeek.

These are challenging times for faith communities in the UK, particularly with the devastating war in the Middle East. The King’s visit was a wonderful encouragement to remain united in partnership and friendship – as many people of faith are doing across the country.

Jesus calls us to be peacemakers, and that is especially important right now. I hope this visit by the King inspires @thechurchofengland to continue in our calling to love our neighbours and help bring communities together.

Justin Welby Instagram - I’m saddened to learn of the passing to glory of retired Bishop Paride Taban on All Saints Day 2023. It was an honour to meet him in his quest for peace in his beloved South Sudan, both among leaders and the people, at the national and community level.

Bishop Paride’s unique Peace Village provided a venue for rival groups to work close-up at their differences and solve many of them. It was my honour in 2017 to present him the Hubert Walter Award for his peacebuilding efforts and the promotion of the education of boys and girls.

I pray for Bishop Paride’s family, all who loved him, and for the people of South Sudan who he served in Christ’s name. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Justin Welby Instagram - In a time of horrific violence across the globe, may we also remember the Kuki-Zo Christians in Manipur, India, who have been under attack since May. Over 140 people have died and thousands more are displaced as hundreds of homes and churches have been destroyed.

Last Sunday, the community at St John’s Southall Green gathered to pray for Manipur. I join them in asking God for justice, a lasting peace, and reconciliation in the region and beyond.
Justin Welby Instagram - Today I was delighted to receive an Apostles Edition of the @saintjohnsbible in honour and memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It was presented at Lambeth Palace by @saintjohnsabbey and University in Minnesota, USA, and is the first handwritten, illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in 500 years. It will be housed for public view at @lampallib.

It was good to meet those who have dedicated over 11 years to creating this Bible – using ancient practices to bring a fresh expression of God’s word into the 21st century, with the ultimate hope of reigniting faith in God and love for the Bible around the world.

I pray their work will bear much fruit – and that by so diligently revealing the beauty of Scripture, many will come to faith in Christ.

Justin Welby Instagram - Armistice Day calls us to honour all those who laid down their lives for us in the horrors of war, and to pray for all affected by conflict around the world. We pray also for the reconciling power of Jesus Christ to transform us all into people of peace and justice.
Justin Welby Instagram - On All Saints' Day, Christians celebrate the lives of all those who have gone before us. Tomorrow on All Souls’ Day, we remember those we have loved who have died.

Both feasts give us the certain hope that on Earth we are united with the prayer and praise of those in heaven.
Justin Welby Instagram - Today we remember all those who paid with their lives so ours could be free. May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we honour it by continuing to pray and work for peace and reconciliation, the ministry to which Jesus Christ calls us.

Justin Welby - 2K Likes - The people of Armenia are not forgotten – not by God, and not by the Church.

Caption : It was a huge honour to welcome His Majesty The King to @lampallib today to meet with faith leaders from across the UK as part of #InterFaithWeek. Read more at the link in bio.

“You've chosen to live in community together. You've chosen to be present to God and present to one another. That is a huge challenge.”

Last Sunday, the community at St John’s Southall Green gathered to pray for Manipur. I join them in asking God for justice, a lasting peace, and reconciliation in the region and beyond.

Both feasts give us the certain hope that on Earth we are united with the prayer and praise of those in heaven.
