The Mirage Hotel and Casino has just opened its doors in Las Vegas, and there’s nothing quite like it at the time. As I sift through old video clips, I’m transported back to my childhood in the 70s and 80s—a time when Las Vegas was a vibrant tapestry of inspiration and decadence that ultimately shaped who I am today. The Sands, an iconic symbol of old Vegas, was a place where history was made and dreams spun like smoke at a poker table. With the arrival of the Mirage, a new era began, bringing enchanting volcanoes and lush landscapes that turned fantasy into reality. Now, both the Sands and the Mirage have been torn down, leaving behind only memories of their glory. Amidst the glimmering lights, I learned about life’s complexities. The juxtaposition of wealth and poverty taught me resilience and the strength of the human spirit. Each visit to the opulent casinos and dazzling performances instilled a sense of wonder, while the realities of those living in the shadows offered invaluable lessons. I can still hear the Go-Go’s playing in the background on the radio in the car—one of the hottest bands of the time, their upbeat tunes perfectly capturing the spirit of those carefree days. These videos are cherished artifacts, reminders of a world that once thrived and has transformed over time. Though the Sands and the Mirage may no longer stand, my memories remain—testaments to my roots and the experiences that shaped my worldview. Las Vegas in the 70s and 80s was a tapestry of vibrant colors and stark contrasts, filled with adventure and dreams. Caption : Why is saying good-bye so hard… My mom lost her best friend last night…. Losing Annette Tucker, my mom’s best friend, leaves a void that’s hard to put into words. She was tough, loving, and endlessly loyal. I’m grateful for every moment and the incredible friendship I learned from her. From the moment my mom and Annette met at Macy’s in the early ’90s, they were inseparable. They turned a circle of friends into family and even nicknamed their crew “SexLESS and the City.” Their stories and laughter filled our days with light. What I learned from their bond: true female friendship is never competitive, always lifting each other up, and endlessly generous. They inspired me to be my best, often believing in me more than I believed in myself. Annette and my mom talked almost every hour. Her kind notes cheered me on in every dream. I miss her already. Keaton, Matthew, and I carry her spirit with us, hoping her legacy of true friendship lives on. It was something you think about seriously doing as a career, or at least I did in the 80s when I grew up there. It was: showgirl, camera girl, cigarette girl, cocktail, keno. This was my first and only show—felt like the beginning of a long journey ahead, chasing the dream of dancing and acting. At the time I didn’t know how to do it, but I knew this was the start, and I was so happy to be there, part of a show, part of a team, doing what I loved most: being honest on stage and learning something that challenged me incredibly. The owner bought it as a tear down and clearly never did… and it was in slightly better condition when I first moved into it but it didn’t have a heater or much anything else. I fixed it up and made it a place that was my home for a long time. I was driving by today and had the time to pull over and just look at it and really take in how far I’ve come from those days when I lived here, when I first moved to Los Angeles and how much I’ve grown into the person I am today. I had a dream and remembered what I wanted to create in my life and have never steered away from that. So for anyone who thinks they can’t do it I’m here to say YES you can. Of course, I can’t remember any of them today. I did it! 😎 On day 4, I got up on my first try, and the feeling was absolutely surreal. 🙌 But this experience wasn’t just about conquering physical challenges; it was about facing the strange voices in my head that whispered doubts and fears. 🗣️ If this isn’t a lesson in not letting ourselves be our own worst enemy, I don’t know what is! 💪 Throughout this journey, I’ve learned a few things that I hope can inspire you too: 1️⃣ Embrace the Unknown: Sometimes, the only way to overcome our fears is to dive right into them. Caption : And just like that…. This past Saturday, January 6th, an ordinary day turned into a moment of alarm for my family when my mother suffered a fall that resulted in a severe head injury. It was one of those heart-stopping incidents that remind us of how fragile life can be. She was rushed to the hospital, where the situation was so critical that she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). For five agonizing days, we lived in a state of uncertainty, each moment heavy with the possibility of the worst outcome. The fear that we could lose her was palpable. But amidst this turmoil, there’s a silver lining that I am overjoyed to share: my mother fought through those critical days and was released from the ICU a few days ago. It’s a journey we’re taking one day at a time, but the progress is promising. She is fully cognitive, and is still in the hospital. I’m immensely grateful. 🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻 Her survival and recovery thus far feel nothing short of miraculous. After her fall, she underwent a brain angiogram — a procedure where dye is injected to visualize the blood vessels and seal up potential sources of bleeding. This was the first major step in her treatment. We remain hopeful as we await further updates about the blood in her brain, praying that she won’t require an additional procedure to drain it. I’d like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire medical team at Kaiser, especially the nurses and Dr. Kuo Chao, Neurointerventional Radiologist, for their exceptional care and tireless efforts in performing the brain angiogram. I’d also like to express my deepest appreciation to Dr. Grace Hu for her diligent care, compassion, and outstanding support for my mother. Without the dedication and expertise of the entire team at Kaiser, I don’t know where we’d be. I’m choosing to focus on the positives: she’s alive, she didn’t suffer any broken bones, she didn’t have a stroke, and her eyesight remains intact. In total I’ve done it or have tried to maybe four times so I promised my self I’d do it every day while I was at the lake. As a fitness trainer, I’ve always loved being creative with my workouts, sculpting them into something that not only challenges the body but also nourishes the spirit. But beyond the gym, art has been my lifeline. During some of my darkest moments and trust me there were MANY – I found solace in writing, pouring my emotions onto the page and finding catharsis through storytelling. Acting became my escape, allowing me to step into different worlds and leave my world and my worries behind. Dance, too, played a vital role in my life, especially growing up in #LasVegas. It became a form of expression and liberation, a way to channel my emotions and find joy in movement. And then there are the countless DIY projects and art endeavors that have brought me so much joy and purpose. When I felt lost, art provided me with a lifeline, a way to express myself and find meaning in the midst of chaos. The process of creating, whether it’s through fitness, writing, acting, dance, or crafting, has been my sanctuary. It’s through these creative outlets that I’ve found healing, discovered my true self, and ultimately, saved my own life.
