Increasing your movement vocabulary through technical training and building the connection between your physical body and mind is a powerful tool. The more expansive your vocabulary, the more you’ll have the ability to articulate yourself and the message of the story you are delivering through dance. That being said, technique is irrelevant if the underlying essence of the work has no heart.
I wanted to share this sentiment for all of the young dancers who I have the privilege of being connected with here. Keep up the amazing work and training you are doing in your classes and on your own. Be proud of wherever you are right now in your dance journey. And know that the the possibilities for growth, both technically and artistically, are infinite every single time you show up for yourself and for your art. In between the hyperfocus of pointed toes and stretched knees, keep making room for your artistry to shine through your dancing, whether you are grinding in the studio or shining on stage. At the end of the day, the heart you bring to your art is what will have the greatest impact on the world around you.
