🧜🏽♀️🦄 @MagicMikeMovie more Mermacorn training 🌊 I was relentless in my efforts to grow in this piece, both technically & artistically. This ending knee spin was one of the elements I struggled with the most. The incomparable @Alison_Faulk helped me find an alternative entry into this crucial move that comes near the finale of the water duet. I practiced it every chance I got, usually at the end of rehearsal, as seen here with 6 consecutive attempts in a row. The fluctuations in water level, where @ChanningTatum & I ended up after our final slides, & the pain I felt in my knees made every single attempt at this a completely different beast. On the day we filmed I was only able to achieve a couple of solid spins despite my absolute best efforts. I am never satisfied with my performances but have learned to reconcile this notion within to be proud of what we achieved for a dance that will live forever. Knowing I did the best I could with a wave of unexpected circumstances reinforced a valuable life lesson that dance has gifted me: prepare and adapt. I want to thank each & every one of you who have sent comments & messages throughout the year to acknowledge this moment in my career. It was a once in a lifetime experience that changed me forever & knowing the art I’ve dedicated my life to has evoked emotion of any kind in you is more than I could ever ask for. Thank you. Technique matters, yes. It also means nothing without artistry. Increasing your movement vocabulary through technical training and building the connection between your physical body and mind is a powerful tool. The more expansive your vocabulary, the more you’ll have the ability to articulate yourself and the message of the story you are delivering through dance. That being said, technique is irrelevant if the underlying essence of the work has no heart. I wanted to share this sentiment for all of the young dancers who I have the privilege of being connected with here. Keep up the amazing work and training you are doing in your classes and on your own. Be proud of wherever you are right now in your dance journey. And know that the the possibilities for growth, both technically and artistically, are infinite every single time you show up for yourself and for your art. In between the hyperfocus of pointed toes and stretched knees, keep making room for your artistry to shine through your dancing, whether you are grinding in the studio or shining on stage. @Leica_Camera SL3 self-portrait series My photography journey began in 2008 and has taken some of the most unlikely twists and turns ever since. Working behind the camera has molded me as a human and an artist in ways that are impossible to explain with words.. hence the relentless drive I have to create without spoken language.
