Amy Williams Instagram – January has been gone and a new fresh month has begun. You may have had big plans to start going to a gym and working on your fitness journey – yet didn’t manage step foot in gym due to anxiety, not knowing where to start, feeling uncomfortable, stressed, and totally lost in a unknown space.
This can be quite a common fear, so don’t feel like you’re alone . Here’s a few tips for conquering gym anxiety to help make that first step easier:
1️⃣Start Small: Begin with picking 1 area of the gym, such as a peddle on a bike, then head to the mat area for a stretch. Build confidence slowly and familiarise yourself.
2️⃣Bring a Friend: A workout buddy can provide support and motivation as well as someone to be held accountable to to turn up at a set time to workout together.
3️⃣Plan Your Routine: Having a structured plan reduces uncertainty. Find a coach to write your workouts to suit your goals and lifestyle.
4️⃣Choose Off-Peak Hours: Less crowded times mean a more comfortable environment, less people and stress.
5️⃣Focus on Yourself: Remember, everyone is there for their journey, not to judge. Everyone was a beginner at one point in time.
6️⃣Celebrate Milestones: Acknowledge your progress, no matter how small. Little mini steps each day, week, month, those little 1% really do build up.
