Caption : My skin completely changed during peri-menopause, menopause and the years following it. Dryness and loss of elasticity were my two main concerns, but dullness was also an issue. I was uncomfortable in my own skin and very conscious of how it looked. It made me feel depressed and at one point, I even had a bout of psoriasis. In order to help support my skin and address these issues, I started making my own professional skincare with natural ingredients and researching the science behind skin function during this time of life. It has been incredibly rewarding, giving me the knowledge I need to use safe, effective ingredients that my body can trust – something that we all should be doing in our skincare routines! Caption : Currently, I find myself dealing with the consequences of travel, changes in climate, jet lag, and insufficient sleep, along with adjusting to a different diet. These factors can collectively impact the body and weaken the immune system. I’m experiencing a scratchy throat, a runny nose, and overall body aches, although thankfully, it’s not severe enough to keep me confined at home. I’m feeling a bit improved today, and I credit this to my prompt response when I first noticed the initial symptoms. I’ve been using Echinacea throat spray, elderberry lozenges and syrup, warm lemon and honey concoctions, and consuming plenty of water and also get plenty of rest. I’ve also taken the time to contemplate whether my body is trying to eliminate toxins or emotions, and I’m being attentive and gentle with myself, providing extra care. It’s essential to remember that with some assistance, we have the capacity to heal ourselves. Our bodies possess an incredible feedback system that signals when something is amiss. Learning to comprehend its needs can expedite the healing process. Since I’m not severely unwell, I made the effort to rise from my bed and venture outside to immerse myself in the natural world—amongst the trees, birds, and flowers. It’s a therapeutic experience, and I can sense my body expressing gratitude. How do you personally manage occasional bouts of the flu? Caption : When I moved to Switzerland at the tender age of 12, a new adventure began. One which included experiencing an entirely different culture – and climate! In this unfamiliar terrain my skin suddenly became vulnerable without warning; as cold autumn days morphed into chillier winter ones, so did my beloved complexion become dryer than ever before. With no prior knowledge on how best to look after it properly apart from splashing some water. Lucky me that all I had were mild signs like redness and itchiness instead of teenage issues…It wasn’t until then that taking care of one’s delicate visage truly became part of my everyday life. When I was growing up, my mom and grandma weren’t huge into skin care. All they had in their routine was a moisturizer to keep things simple – which seemed good enough for me at the time… Until high school came around! Caption : Embracing the Bright Side of Jet Lag! ☀️✈️ Woke up at 5 AM, and guess what? I decided to seize the moment. 💪💫 Instead of hitting snooze, I thought, “When was the last time I woke up so early?” 🤔 So, I made a pact with myself to cherish it and make the most of this peaceful morning. 🌄 Early mornings used to be my secret productivity weapon, no distractions! 🚀 Today, I rekindled that magic. Started with a soothing cup of tea, a gratitude meditation, and a few chapters of an audiobook. Then, I rolled out my yoga mat and sweated it out for 25 minutes. 💆♀️ With the day still fresh, I stepped outside for some invigorating morning air and logged in half of my daily steps! 🚶♀️ Feeling accomplished, I treated myself to a mocha and a croissant. ☕🥐 Back home by 9 AM, I realized that this spontaneous day was a far cry from my usual over-planned routines. Caption : Hi Everyone, How are you all holding up with our situation? I myself have been pretty quiet and not participating or commenting much on social media. I had to very quickly stop reading everything as it brought on a lot of anxiety and stress. I found myself spending too much time on it and not doing anything else. So I decided to go back to the things that make me happy, give me balance and help me to be more productive. I guess it’s my way of dealing with the situation. I’ll share some of these with you in the near future. For the moment I am very fortunate to still be able to connect with nature everyday and I feel for those confined to their homes in the city. Caption : MY FORAY INTO SKIN CARE⠀ When did I start taking care of my skin?⠀ ⠀ I was 12 and had just moved to Switzerland. It was autumn. I was not only getting adjusted to the different culture and way of life, but I also had to get used to the weather. I had never really paid attention to my skin but with the days becoming colder and dryer, I started seeing signs of dryness. As we progressed into winter, my lips became chapped. My skin just felt very bare and vulnerable. I never wore makeup so the idea of having to clean my face with something other than water just didn’t make sense. I was very fortunate to not have teenage skin issues. Lucky me! But the tightness, redness and slight itchiness was becoming a concern. Both my mother and grandmother were not into skincare much. They just had a moisturiser and I remember they both used Oil of Olay! But I was told that a simple cream such as Nivea (in the blue round tin) would be good enough for me. It helped and I was fine with that until I went to secondary school. ⠀ ⠀ That’s when I discovered make-up, vanity and boys! I graduated from Nivea and adopted a more elaborate routine, comprising a cleansing milk, a toner (yes, with alcohol then!!) and a moisturiser. Caption : Just returned from my morning walk and had the most intriguing encounter with a cat. While strolling, I spotted this charming feline perched on a window ledge. As is my habit, I greeted the cat (I can’t resist chatting with every cat I meet), and to my surprise, it promptly descended to join me on the sidewalk, eagerly welcoming cuddles and strokes. (By the way, why are cats so friendly around here?) We played for a bit, and I regretted not having any treats on hand. Deciding to bid farewell, I attempted to part ways, but the cat tagged along persistently. I didn’t want to lead it away because it clearly belonged to someone. I walked it back toward a nearby door, but it refused to leave my side. At this point, my friend suggested that it might want me to take it back to its home. I approached a door adorned with a cat bowl, assuming it was the cat’s residence. However, the cat guided me to a neighboring door, standing before it as if to request that I open it. It was an incredibly endearing moment, unlike any encounter I’ve had with a stranger’s cat before. I rang the doorbells, but there was no answer. I instructed the cat to wait, and it persisted, seemingly encouraging me to keep ringing the bell. I sat with it for a while and gave the doorbell another try. A lady answered and confirmed that she owned a cat. She mentioned that she had just awakened and assured me that she would be downstairs shortly. We left the cat there, and this time, it didn’t follow us, understanding that its mommy was awake and would soon open the door. Do you believe cats are incredibly clever creatures? Caption : Today is my off day, woohoo! 💃🏽 I know it’s Saturday, the day most people have off, but my schedule isn’t your typical Monday-to-Friday deal with weekends free. So, what does an off day mean to me? It’s all about Me! ❤️ I take a moment to reflect and ask myself, “What do I need? What do I want?” Do I indulge in some ice cream? Do I immerse myself in a book from morning till night? Maybe I feel like singing and dancing like a wild and carefree soul? Perhaps I’ll pamper myself at a spa or take a refreshing dip in a waterfall? Or maybe, just maybe, I’ll snuggle up in bed and reminisce about beautiful memories from the past. It’s like having a heart-to-heart with my body, you know? But it wasn’t always like this for me. I grew up with a whooooole different set of beliefs. Sitting down to read a book or enjoying leisurely lunches? Nope, not okay. Chores came first, meals were on a strict schedule, and even waking up and going to bed had set times. Daydreaming or doing absolutely nothing was frowned upon as plain laziness. Can any of you relate to this? The thing is, those beliefs never quite clicked with me. That’s probably why I ditched the 9-to-5 routine early on in life. Sure, I had the security of a job and a paycheck back then, but at what expense? I was constantly exhausted, the days flew by in a blur, and personal growth? Forget about it! I was stuck in one place, seeing the world from the same old perspective. Anyway, back to my glorious off day. Today, I silence the nagging “to do list” and turn my focus inward. Engaging in a heartfelt conversation with myself helps me unwind, find my balance, and heal. It’s like fuel for my soul, you know? We’re all so caught up in the rat race of success and survival in today’s world that we forget to hit the brakes and simply enjoy being with the most important person in our lives: ourselves! Caption : This years holy month is going to be very different from any previous ones. Everywhere in the world, the lockdowns have been extended and this is bringing on more unsettling emotions from either being away from family and loved ones, or just not being able to go back to our lives as they used to be. My next “go-to” when I’m down, especially with hints of anxiety, is to use essential oils (EO’s). There are so many lovely EO’s out there but in moments like these I tend to reach for those that are rich in natural chemical components (such as linalol & linalyl acetate….ok, yawn) that have been proven to calm the nervous system and ease anxiety. So which are my favourites? Lavender, Bergamot -Mint, Neroli & Petitgrain. Lavender is the most common, and that on its own can do the trick. I, personally, make a blend with all the above and either diffuse it or use a nasal inhaler. It works wonders! I hope you, too, can find some peace and calm with these EO’s.
