Just moments before @imdeanmcdermott and @torispelling called me about planning the “Booby Bash,” I had learned that I had two tumors in my brain…
This was about two years ago and I had just finished a Zoom meeting with my oncologist and a new neurologist (I had never needed one before this), when they broke the news to me.
I could have sulked in the news and given into the fear that we might not be able to rid my brain of the tumors. And honestly, that would have been totally understandable.
But, I’m so lucky to have friends who lift me up even when they’re in shock themselves.
Their reactions in this scene were completely genuine, as they were hearing this information for the first time. It’s a moment I never would have been able to capture on my own, and I’m quite proud of it. I’m so proud of myself for being authentically me, and seeing it in action validates my confidence in the idea that “WE GOT THIS.”
This is a prime example of how we’re stronger together.
After this phone call, I rushed to UCLA where they fitted me with a radiation mask to start my new treatment plan within a couple of days.
In the middle of my week of radiation, we threw the Booby Bash at @santolinabh on the rooftop of the @beverlyhilton. The rest of that story is an awesome whirlwind, but I’ll save that for my next post…
