Michael Beach Instagram – I miss these days! Before we had monitors (TV screens) on every set this is how you were directed. I don’t remember having a director standing or sitting right by the camera during a take in a couple of decades or more. It’s not needed or helpful for every scene but when the performance requires personal, intimate, painful, vulnerable (etc.) type moments it is refreshing to feel your director’s encouraging presence pulling for you by sharing the experience you’re going through. Any notes you get also seem more connected to the energy within that 6 foot bubble. It’s like when the camera person gives you a thumbs up or hand on the shoulder cause they were right there with you. It’s a moment we experienced together that really makes you a part of a team. Without sound too esoteric it really can be magical.
