This is the end of the last scene I ever filmed with the late, great #louisgossettjr ❤️ His character was my fiery old father-in-law who clearly was not pleased with me 😂 … Great memories for me were the times I’d go to Mr. Gossett’s room (on set) to run lines with him whenever he appeared on the @betplus series @officialkingdombusiness even if I wasn’t in the scene. It was always a treat for me to help a man whose history in our business without question opened doors and cleared paths so that many more black actors of my generation could find steady work, thrive and become successful. This was early in 2017 with my man @getfitbyrob 🔥 … Over the years I’ve often worked out with many trainers but had never actually been trained by one until Rob. I was headed to Australia to shoot #aquamanmovie and they told me to find a trainer to get me into top shape. Of course, in the movie, I ended up in a bulky suit that totally covered my body🤣. Anyway, I called Rob and he had me doing all kinds of fun things and we even made up some shit. I had done #hiitworkouts before but my 6 to 8 weeks with Rob really gave me a passion for it! I started wearing glasses at 4 years old. My eyes in combination with @mylifeisabeach eyes has all our children wearing glasses as well. I miss these days! Before we had monitors (TV screens) on every set this is how you were directed. I don’t remember having a director standing or sitting right by the camera during a take in a couple of decades or more. It’s not needed or helpful for every scene but when the performance requires personal, intimate, painful, vulnerable (etc.) type moments it is refreshing to feel your director’s encouraging presence pulling for you by sharing the experience you’re going through. Any notes you get also seem more connected to the energy within that 6 foot bubble. It’s like when the camera person gives you a thumbs up or hand on the shoulder cause they were right there with you. It’s a moment we experienced together that really makes you a part of a team.
