Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Instagram – Nooo! This one is devestating. Chita Rivera was the definition of an old-school Broadway STAR. Never missed a performance, never gave less than a hundred and ten percent. A trail-blazing icon and legend. I was lucky enough to have seen her in many shows, including “Kiss of the Spider Woman” five (!!) times, on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. In it, Chita played a glamorous femme fatale, a goddess of the silver screen who was also a terrifying Angel of Death, delivering her black widow kisses of deliverance and transformation. If you know me, you know that performance was burned into my brain and has influenced pretty much everything I’ve done since, including a “Kiss of the Spider Woman” tribute episode of #katykeene.
