Artemis Pebdani Instagram – RP• @centerforhumanrights A powerful message of solidarity by one rapper turned political prisoner in Iran to another was posted on the official Twitter account of Toomaj Salehi today in Persian, which translates to:
“By transferring the artist and singer Saman Yasin to the psychiatric hospital, the Islamic Republic intends to carry out a silent murder. Saman has been subjected to severe torture since the beginning of his detention, denied the right to have his chosen lawyer, and all the charges against him are based on the fabrications of the security establishment.
Saman is an artist that belongs to this land and must be freed.”
A judge notorious for using the judicial system to crush dissent in Iran, Abolqasem Salavati, sent Yasin to a psychiatric hospital this week shortly after he publicly demanded justice in his case. Yasin was previously sentenced to death in connection with anti-state protests and is in grave danger now that his case review is being handled by Salavati.
Meanwhile, Toomaj, who was also in danger of being sentenced to death, was earlier this month condemned to serving six years in jail. The only “crime” the rappers committed was engaging in freedom of speech. Raise your voice; be their voices. #FreeToomaj #FreeSaman
