Charlene White Instagram – Funerals tend to be the perfect time to remember the history that came before.
When these men arrived on UK shores during the Windrush era, they were faced with hate, distrust, racism, and violence. They were denied the opportunities afforded to those who were not immigrants. The system was set up for them to fail.
In the midst of all of that, they found each other, and found safety, solace, and friendship. All these years later, they still have each other… but this weekend in Jamaica they bid farewell to one of their crew, my uncle and god-father Kes.
I’m proud to call them all uncle, and proud of the future they, and so many others, fought so hard for… for us. Thank-you.
