Jasika Nicole Instagram – I made the #mothwingcapelet by @minimalistmachinist last November and it was the *perfect* project to reignite my connection to sewing after taking a little hiatus. I’ve never made a pattern quite like it before- the instructions were sparse which was a little uncomfortable for me initially, but I think that was part of the magic- it gives you so much room to experiment and explore and make the wings super unique to you. Everything I used was from my stash and remnants of other projects except for the multi colored pieces on the front, which was actually a carpet sample I found at @remainders_creative_reuse . Wasn’t sure what inspired me to buy it but of course I’m so glad I did because when I ran out of the faux suede for the main body of the wing it allowed me to be inventive and create a more dynamic palette! The faux suede was leftover from throw pillows, the furry leather a bucket bag, the snakeskin-like leather is from a pair of shoes, the gold is what I used for my buddy Quinn’s Xmas gift, and the silk velvet is from the cris woods envelope dress I made last year. I am still stunned at the silhouette of this- from the side it really looks like moth wings at rest! What a fun project from a super talented, generous and out-of-the-box maker who is always contributing to the community in cool ways ❤️ I would suggest this project for intermediate makers and beginners with a knowledgeable buddy to talk them through any tricky parts (experiential know-how is important for this pattern as she doesn’t hold your hand through it, but my partner, a very beginner sewist, made a gorgeous pair with my help). Congrats, Rachael ❤️❤️❤️ | Posted on 04/Jan/2024 03:02:31
