Liberté Chan Instagram – With at least 40 native superfoods, Peru is known as the world’s pantry.

These foods have minimum calories and maximum nutrients and on my recent trip to Lima, here are some of the superfoods I made sure to eat:

* Granadilla: Rich in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C, granadilla supports immune health, aids digestion, and promotes healthy skin.

* Lucuma: Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, lucuma is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, helps regulate blood sugar levels, and supports heart health.

* Camote: aka sweet potato, camote is a great source of vitamins A and C, fiber, and antioxidants. It promotes gut health, boosts immunity, and aids in weight management.

* Chirimoya: Chirimoya is high in vitamin C, B vitamins, and fiber. It supports digestion, promotes heart health, and may help regulate blood pressure levels.

* Uña de gato / Cat’s claw: This herb is revered for its immune-boosting properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and potential to support joint health and digestion.

* Aguaymanto: aka goldenberry, aguaymanto is rich in vitamin A, C, and antioxidants. It supports eye health, boosts immunity, and may help control blood sugar levels.

* Muna: Muna is a traditional Peruvian herb known for its digestive benefits, anti-inflammatory properties, and potential to relieve respiratory issues.

* Maca: Maca is an adaptogenic root rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. It boosts energy, balances hormones, and enhances stamina and endurance.

* Kiwicha: aka amaranth, kiwicha is a gluten-free grain packed with protein, fiber, and micronutrients. It supports heart health, aids digestion, and boosts energy levels.

* Purple Corn: Purple corn is rich in anthocyanins, antioxidants, and fiber. It supports cardiovascular health, promotes healthy aging, and may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

* Native Potatoes: There are over 4000 varieties of native potatoes in Peru. They come in various colors (purple, blue, red, yellow) and are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They support digestive health, boost immunity, and provide sustained energy.
