John Prine Instagram – The Everly Brothers and John Prine have deep roots in Muhlenberg County and created a positive economic impact for a struggling coal county by helping to establish and headline the Everly Brothers Homecoming/Central City Music Festival from 1988 to 2002.
That event drew tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world to Muhlenberg County and continues to impact the community today positively, helping to keep the city from going bankrupt.
Their legacies have been forged in bronze, believed to be the only life-size statues of these artists in the world, as the focal point for Festival Square.
It will be unveiled in an official ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14. Members of the Prine and Everly families will be on hand for this unique first look at the completed venue.
Later that evening, a special benefit concert will be held at Lu-Ray Park Amphitheater.
The concert will honor The Everly Brothers, John Prine, and all the stars and volunteers who participated in the Central City Music Festival/Everly Brothers Homecoming.
