Throwing it back to the first and last song John ever wrote… #tbt

Join us and our friends from @sayhellointhere as we Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 11th! John Prine wrote the song “Hello In There” while walking his mail route as a letter carrier in Illinois, born out of the belief that just a simple “Hello”, or random act of kindness can make a difference. At Second Harvest we too believe that when we come together and show one act of kindness, we can make a difference in our communities and for our neighbors facing hunger. On May 11th, be sure to place a bag of nonperishable food next to your mailbox for your letter carrier to collect and deliver to your local food bank!

The Everly Brothers and John Prine have deep roots in Muhlenberg County and created a positive economic impact for a struggling coal county by helping to establish and headline the Everly Brothers Homecoming/Central City Music Festival from 1988 to 2002. That event drew tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world to Muhlenberg County and continues to impact the community today positively, helping to keep the city from going bankrupt. Their legacies have been forged in bronze, believed to be the only life-size statues of these artists in the world, as the focal point for Festival Square. It will be unveiled in an official ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14. Members of the Prine and Everly families will be on hand for this unique first look at the completed venue. Later that evening, a special benefit concert will be held at Lu-Ray Park Amphitheater. The concert will honor The Everly Brothers, John Prine, and all the stars and volunteers who participated in the Central City Music Festival/Everly Brothers Homecoming. Tickets on sale tomorrow!
