The trumpets speak. Clear and loud-of an aching inner-life
In a world they no longer recognise
I want to spot you in the crowd
And sense your tender heart closer to mine
I promise not to break your mind or make up
Something you’d define
As distance. Between us.
I wonder how many of us have grown silent
In disguise
Spiralling to the depths of lust
Intrigued not by a sense of safety or aligned.
My breath holds us, if only for a second.
Gratitude invades me, if only to distinguish
My voice from all the after-cries in the afterlife
I’m off to a good start.
