Angelica Ross Instagram – @saveweelaunee ATLANTA: Despite numerous city council meetings with historic levels of opposition, countless mass protests, and a ballot petition campaign that collected over 116,000 signatures from Atlanta residents (1/4 registered), Mayor Dickens and his administration continue to disregard democracy and move forward with their plans to build a militarized police training facility in the Weelaunee Forest. All too willing to do the bidding of corporations, wealthy donors, and Governor Kemp, while acting against the will of the people of Atlanta. More recently, the Atlanta Police Department conducted a brutal and violent attack and arrest of peaceful anti-war students, children and faculty at Emory University protesting for a permanent ceasefire to stop the genocide of Gaza and to Stop Cop City. These militarized police tactics, learned in partnership with the Israel Defense Forces, are another example of the type of policing that Cop City will facilitate. The people of Atlanta have already spoken, and they have said they don’t want Cop City. Once again Rev. Keyanna Jones showed up for our collective futures.
