Ashima Shiraishi Instagram – (pt 2) Humbled by this rock, I was struck by both the resilience and frailty of the corporeal body. Frailty in that, I felt dwarfed by the stone by both scales of time and structural strength. The softness and smallness of my body stark against the rapakivi granite. But then, the other truth of the supple body emerges against the rock — the incredible capacity to renew itself.
While the rock didn’t hug me back this time, when the time is ripe, it might. Feelin’ endlessly grateful for the people and the land I could count on to hug in its place🫂
Grateful to have been a guest in the land of 180,000 lakes and lush living carpets! The blankets of byrophytes covering rocks and the whiskers of beard lichens hanging from the pines added some whimsy and awe to our cold climbing days. kiitos!
