Dawnn Lewis Instagram – 38 years ago I met a woman who’s essence would forever change and bless my life! I attended a private party shortly after I arrived in LA to shoot the #ADifferentWorld pilot in ‘86. I was then introduced to the “Original Jaleesa” and she shared the story of how my character was named after her! @JaleesaHazzard and her husband Walt (Sinbad’s character was named after), have always been two of the most gracious, talented, compassionate and genuine people I had ever met. Walt sadly passed away years ago, but my namesake & I have remained friends since that very first day. It was wonderful sharing a meal, a beverage and a “just cause” hang with her today by the ocean. Fact: her name was actually created just for her! She’s truly “The Original” however, the international success of ADW has inspired thousands of people to name their daughter “Jaleesa”, because of my character! I’m honored and humbled to play even a small part in keeping this Phenomenal Woman’s legacy alive!
