Diana Nyad Instagram – Millions, from Mexico to Vermont, thrilled to witness the eclipse yesterday. Why are our emotions stirred at an eclipse? Seems to me it serves as a reminder of both our gratitude for this perfect, life nourishing position where our earth finds itself….as well as our utter awe of the unfathomable phenomena of our spectacular universe. We live daily under the misconception that our trio of beautiful orbs—earth, moon, sun—-are fixed. We count on them to be just where we expect them. During the eclipse, we are breathless to watch the perfect circle of the moon elegantly travel across the face of our life-affirming sun.
Am just now re-reading Carl Sagan’s mesmerizing COSMOS (my, don’t we all miss our space philosopher/poet Sagan?). Sentence by sentence, he captures the incredulity and curiosity and emotion we shared yesterday. Did you see the eclipse? What did you feel?
