Loving a boy or a man in all their ugly faults came naturally to me. I had a well-spring of love to give, but where to put it? It took spending a lot of time with a man who loved me well and who was deeply aligned with my values for me to realize that a life-partner isn’t determined by whom I love. No. Love is a choice and I could choose to love anybody. A life-partner is determined by how the other loves me, how the other receives my love and if our deepest drives and values align. The feeling of love is the easy part. The act of love is much less sparkly. Who loves you well? Who knows how to receive your love? And do their core values align with yours?
