Julianne Moore Instagram – This week’s #WomenCrushWednesday coincides with National Gun Violence Survivors Week, an annual week where people in America take stock of the human toll of America’s gun violence crisis, and honor survivors with action. So today we shine a light on Gabriella Rodriguez.

Gabriella Rodriguez was living in Central Florida, working as a sexual health and wellness educator and case manager within the LGBTQ community, when a gunman attacked the LGBTQ nightclub Pulse, killing 49 people and wounding dozens more.

Following the shooting, Gabriella said language barriers and cultural differences made it difficult for the victims’ families to access support and resources in the aftermath of the shooting. In response, several organizations emerged, including @QLatinx, which provides safe spaces for LGBTQ and Latinx individuals to talk about the issues affecting them.

“Sometimes I wonder why anyone would listen to me and I wonder if I’m really making a difference,” Gabriella continued. “But then I sit with other survivors and listen to their stories, I share space and stand alongside them, and I am reinvigorated and know we can make a difference.”

This #GVSurvivorsWeek, honor Gabriella and all who work to make their communities safer by sharing her story.
