Karimah Westbrook Instagram – This is my little fur baby Lillie. She’s 18 years old. I adopted her when she was 6 months. She sat in my lap as I drove this day. We were headed to the animal hospital.
It’s funny how pets become family. I’m sad that she hasn’t been doing very well. She’s developing more medical alignment as she’s gotten older but she’s a little fighter and I love that about her.
If you’ve ever owned a pet, you know it gets hard when you have to start asking those tough questions. I’ve had doctors suggest putting her to sleep and my rebuttal is always, “we don’t give up on people that easily.” “We at least try!” I wish animals could talk and tell us how they feel. I wonder if she’s in pain. I find myself looking in her eyes, asking if she’s ready to go. Or am I being selfish. But we’ve been fighting through it all. We’ve both been holding on. I’ve been keeping her comfy at home, knowing that her time could be near.
As I type this, I know I need to focus on being thankful for our time together. Ultimately, I do and I will be sure to remember that.
