A much loved, broken family heirloom has come into the studio to be repaired.
This piece has a small vase/pocket at the rear into which tapers and spills could be placed, these were used for transferring fire to light a candle or pipe.
Usually kept on a mantelpiece, Spill vases come in all sorts of shapes and designs.
Damaged many years ago it has been treasured even in its broken condition.
We love hearing the stories behind the objects that pass through our hands, hopefully going on being enjoyed for many years to come.
