Sí, y le quitaría el ‘todavía’ a la pregunta. Hasta la OMS recomienda la lactancia complementaria hasta los 2 años. Esto no es un mandato, no es una obligación, la lactancia es una decisión que no debe pesarle a quién decide tomarla ni a quien no puede o no quiere hacerlo. Los beneficios son muchos pero los juicios también, la mayoría de mujeres dejan de lactar a sus hij@s por presión social, es una decisión que requiere del apoyo de la pareja, la familia y el entorno social y laboral. En mi caso no fue fácil al inicio pero con paciencia y la ayuda de una asesora de lactancia lo logré. La lactancia me ha reconectado con mi instinto, con mi naturaleza mamífera. Hoy en #ConsejosNoPedidosParaMamás quisiera compartirles 5 cuentas que sigo y me han ayudado a informarme (creo que es de lo más importante) y no sentirme sola en este proceso:

‘DO YOU STILL BREASTFEED HER?’
Yes, and I’d remove the ‘still’ from the question. Even the @who recommends continued breastfeeding until two years. This isn’t a mandate, it’s not an obligation, breastfeeding is a decision. The benefits are many but the judgements are too, most women stop breastfeeding their children due to social pressure, it’s a decision that requires the support of the partner, the family and the social and work environment. In my case it wasn’t easy at first but with patience and the help of a lactation consultant I made it. Today in #unsolicitedadviceformoms I’d like to share 5 accounts (in Spanish 😔) that I follow and have helped me be informed (a very important thing) and not feel alone in this process:

Nadie duda de que la lactancia materna es beneficiosa para el bebé, pero hacerlo a la vista de otros o extenderla en el tiempo continúa siendo un tabú en pleno siglo XXI. En el mes de agosto se celebra la Semana Mundial de la Lactancia, y la talentosa actriz @nataliareyesg se suma a esta iniciativa para reivindicar la libertad de las mujeres y el derecho de los niños a ser alimentados.

– Escojo vuelo nocturno para que duerma
– Pido ventana para entretenerla con la vista y apoyarme
– Le llevo algún juguete que no haya visto
– Comida que le guste
– Agua para hidratarla (o teta) y que no le duelan los oídos
– y aunque sé que no siempre se puede intento viajar en business especialmente si necesito llegar a trabajar

– I bring her a toy she hasn’t seen
– Food she likes
– Water to hydrate her (or breastmilk) so her ears don’t hurt
– and although I know it isn’t always possible, I try to travel in business, especially if I need to get to work
