Randa Abdel-Fattah Instagram – Public servants stand with Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah
Last week Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah invited families to bring their children for an excursion to the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at the University of Sydney. Activities offered included face painting, Tatreez, and a teach-in. The event offered children a much needed space of comfort, healing and community. Children were also taught about Aboriginal sovereignty and our responsibilities to this land.
Children at the event chanted ‘intifada’ meaning ‘uprising’ or ‘revolution’ in Arabic. The Arabic-speakers among us are used to racist interpretations of our words and phrases. In reality, the student encampments and the Kids Excursion embody the call to ‘shake off’ and rise up against seven months of Israeli bombardment that has killed over 15,000 children with impunity.
the Murdoch Press, along with other zionist agitators have initiated a racist and Islamophobic smear campaign against Dr Abdel-Fattah. They have racialised the children who attended, portraying them as violent extremists, echoing the larger zionist dehumanisation of Palestinians. We reject this.
PSA for Palestine joins many other Pro Palestinian, Human Rights, Anti Zionist Jewish organisations and community groups in standing in solidarity with Dr Abdel-Fattah and her students and against the dehumanisation of our children. While agitators continue to make defamatory statements about Dr Abdel-Fattah, and publicly pressure her employer, Macquarie University, to dismiss her and revoke her Fellowship, we ask you all to show your support.
