S. Epatha Merkerson Instagram – This photo was taken May 28, 2016. I was visiting Arlington Cemetery and the resting place of Justin Davis. I’d never been to the cemetery but was in DC for the #NationalMemorialDayConcert #PBS and was given a tour. For the concert I spoke the words of Paula Davis, Justins’ mother. Paulas’ only child was killed in Afghanistan. I met this group of military men #The LongIslandLeathernecks. They were there to honor one of their own; a son who had died in Afghanistan. I will always remember them and the ease in which they told stories of their experience of war. I am in DC today to speak the words of Patricia Magee who lost her son Anthony in Afghanistan.
