Trudie Styler Instagram – This week, to celebrate International Day of Forests, I wanted to highlight this vital project recently supported by the @rainforest_fund. It seeks to protect and preserve rainforests in and around the indigenous territory of Canarana, in the Xingu region of the Amazon. Led by the Kuikuro and Wauja communities, the Association Terra Indigena do Xingu has a fire-fighting brigade with the responsibility of safeguarding 18 villages, all of whom are increasingly threatened by the outbreak of forest fires. Drier seasons, deforestation, agricultural encroachment and climate change have all played their part in raising the risk level of fire and the potential of devastating their territory. This project proposal sought funding to purchase improved fire-fighting equipment and training for the brigade, whose resources are already stretched, to effectively combat these challenges in the rainforest. Trudie Styler Instagram – This week for #femalefilmmakerfriday, I am highlighting writer and producer Melanie Marnich for her new limited series, #ApplesNeverFall! Melanie began her career as a playwright, writing and producing a multitude of plays before landing her role as a staff writer for HBO’s Big Love. Since, she has worked on Showtime’s The Big C, AMC’s Low Winter Sun, and The Affair, which she also helped produce. She also served as co-executive producer on the hit Netflix show The OA which she wrote two episodes for. Her latest project, Apples Never Fall, based on the book of the same name, follows the tennis-obsessed Delaney family, whose lives unravel after a troubled young woman named Savannah shows up at their door, and the family matriarch Joy later disappears. Congratulations on your new show Melanie- I can’t wait to give it a watch!
