Zali Stegall Instagram – I welcome the NSW Government’s announcements around its $240m emergency package, including funding to roll out the Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) program throughout NSW. While the SHLV program has been available in 93 LGAs, it has not been funded and available in Warringah local government areas despite being needed. This is something that myself, @kyleatink , @drsophie4mackellar and @michaelreganmp have been advocating for.
SHLV is an evidence-based program, which has successfully supported women and children who have experienced domestic violence to stay in the family home with wrap around services to make it safe, placing the onus on the perpetrator to face the consequences of finding alternative accommodation.
It is good to see the NSW Government also allocate additional funding to frontline support organisations. The roll out timetable for this support will be vital to ensure urgently needed additional support to victims of violence.
