🏏Fabulous turn out this morning for the official opening of the Alan Border Pavilion in Mosman. The beautiful new pavilion and grandstand also has function rooms, public toilets and change rooms for local sports. Alan Border himself was there to mark the occasion and was joined by fellow cricketing great Ian Chappell as well as many past and present members of the @mosmancricketclub. Onlookers braved the weather to also view the unveiling of a statuesque bronze sculpture of Alan Border, created by sculptor Linda Klarfeld. @felicitywilsonmp @carolyncorriganmayor @mosmancouncil

Just like the Morrison govt, the Albanese govt is captured by the gas industry & self-interest, prioritising Big Gas profits over Aust’s (and the planet’s) future wellbeing. Swapping out one fossil fuel for another won’t successfully get us to Net Zero #auspol
My office often receives feedback that wheelchair users in Warringah can face long waits for accessible transport. In response, Joey, a wheelchair user and also a Warringah constituent, has launched a local transport service for people with disabilities. I congratulate Joey on taking the initiative and hope this will help to provide more access to disability transport our community. To find out more visit www.callred.sydney
🎉Congratulations Warringah! A new wellbeing index has ranked the Northern Beaches LGA the best place to live in the country, with North Sydney and Mosman LGAs also in the top 10. The analysis by SGS Economics and Planning looked at a range of factors including health, employment, housing , income, the environment, equality, community and work-life balance. Most locals would say that we live in a pretty amazing location, and now it’s official. 👏 Read more at 🔗 in bio.
It was great to attend @women_children_first annual Mother’s Day Lunch to celebrate mothers and mother figures everywhere while raising vital funds to support mothers and children experiencing violence and abuse. While acknowledging the family and domestic violence crisis, it was heartening to hear some inspiring stories from survivors and about the life-changing, and sometimes life-saving, services provided by the Women & Children First team.

Many are frustrated that the domestic violence crisis we are facing has not generated an emergency response from government. Women’s safety must be prioritised in next weeks Federal Budget. #enoughisenough

I welcome the NSW Government’s announcements around its $240m emergency package, including funding to roll out the Staying Home Leaving Violence (SHLV) program throughout NSW. While the SHLV program has been available in 93 LGAs, it has not been funded and available in Warringah local government areas despite being needed. This is something that myself, @kyleatink , @drsophie4mackellar and @michaelreganmp have been advocating for. SHLV is an evidence-based program, which has successfully supported women and children who have experienced domestic violence to stay in the family home with wrap around services to make it safe, placing the onus on the perpetrator to face the consequences of finding alternative accommodation. It is good to see the NSW Government also allocate additional funding to frontline support organisations. The roll out timetable for this support will be vital to ensure urgently needed additional support to victims of violence. @women_children_first

⚠️ Time is running out to keep global heating within the Paris Agreement’s 1.5 degree limit. A new survey by The Guardian suggests world’s top climate scientists believe the planet is headed for at least 2.5 degrees of heating, with disastrous consequences – yet there’s still time to turn things around. But what is stopping climate action? 75% of the survey’s respondents pointed to the lack of political will 😠. ❌Policies like the Govt’s Future Gas Strategy, announced today are putting gas companies ahead of Australians (and the planet). ✔️Removing methane gas from the atmosphere must be a top priority to combat global heating, but the government is not acting. 🌏 We need to act with urgency and ambition and reduce emissions by at least 75% by 2035. #climateaction #75by35

💐Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums, step-mums, grand-mums, mums-to-be and mother figures in their many wonderful and varied forms. Thinking of those families who are grieving for their mums today or those mums who are grieving for a lost child. I also acknowledge the strained relationships that some might have with their mum or the pain of distance and separation. Motherhood is a precious gift, and today we celebrate the women who have loved, raised and supported us. 💐
