With Olympic fever building in the lead up to the Paris Games it was wonderful hosting some of Australia’s top Winter Olympic Athletes in Parliament today to showcase their impressive achievements on the international sporting stage. Behind the spectacular speed, precision and skills of events like moguls, luge, skeleton, snowboarding, park and pipe are hours and hours of hard work and dedication. Australia is currently rated 1st in the world for mammal extinction and 2nd in the world for biodiversity loss. The Environment Protection Australia (EPA) bills should provide a critical opportunity to better protect our environment and biodiversity but without also setting out clear and stronger national environmental standards, unfortunately, not enough will change. I will be moving amendments as unfortunately these bills do little to strengthen standards and ensure protections. #stopextinction #climatecrisis #natureconservation
